The Nucleus 2014 ERP Value Matrix shows the advances enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendors have made in increasing the usability of their applications as well as their ability to support better decision-making. Key areas taken into consideration include mobility, embedded analytics, responsive design/usability and industry-specific capabilities.
ORACLE JD EDWARDS

Further leverage of Oracle’s In-Memory investments
In April, Oracle announced JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Planning Advisor, to enable manufacturing and distribution customers to help planners and buyers make critical sourcing decisions while analyzing thousands of SKUs and components in real time.
JD Edwards continued to invest in features for specific industries to drive faster time to value and support for best practices. Recent enhancements include additions to capabilities in its oil, gas, and chemical distribution solutions and enhanced One View Reporting for management of warehouses, real estate, and bulk stock inventory. Additionally, in October Oracle announced:
- JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Rental Management for JD Edwards customers who are in the business of renting equipment, to enable them to manage equipment and rental inventory while controlling costs and maximizing utilization to improve profits.
- JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Blend and Inventory systems enhancements with Wine on Premises Operations Reporting, which generates the summary of daily records that a winery is responsible to keep, enabling The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to verify the accuracy of on-premises inventory and the winery to prepare tax returns and monthly reports.
Internet of things (IoT)
JD Edwards is also making investments with its customers and partners to drive adoption of Internet of things technologies to increase the volume and currency of data to drive better, faster decision-making. The JD Edwards IoT platform provides a framework that allows for very fast deployment of sensor-to-server connections.
Sensors accumulate a great amount of data in such volumes that it can be applied to many things such as aggregating behavioral information about the unit, extensive analytics reporting and analysis, triggers to other system events (as with ERP). Each sensor can either be a simple trigger (sensing temperature, light reading, etc.) and can combine with other sensors to tell a story about the unit they are attached to.
Integration and interoperability
Business Interfaces for Oracle Talent Cloud (Taleo), also announced in October, support interoperability between JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Human Resources and Oracle’s Taleo Recruiting and Talent Cloud. The interfaces include HR Requisition data and HR Employee Master data.
New Tools Release 9.1.5
EnterpriseOne end-user features include key enhancements to support the end-user experience, Oracle In-Memory database option, One View Reporting, System Administration, and Server Management. Updates include a UI redesign (colors, fonts, icons, etc.), improved menu navigation using “breadcrumbs”, drag and drop capabilities and better collaboration with email and calendar integration. Users also enjoy simplified interface navigation, intended for users that only need limited access to a few apps.
Oracle ERP Cloud and Oracle E-Business Suite also scored leader positions in this edition of the Value Matrix. Download the research note to learn why and take a closer look at the ERP vendor competitive landscape.
Roadmap considerations to 2021
JD Edwards has committed to deliver new product releases until 2021, both for World and EnterpriseOne with one major release every three years and minor updates between the major releases. The objective for the roadmap is to provide comprehensive business solutions and to provide value through new technology trends.
Whether we welcome it or not, the world around us is becoming more connected everyday. Consider new business models to bridge the gap between the 10 billion connected devices in the world and your business (by 2020 that number is projected to be 75 billion). Decide which cumbersome business processes are amenable to automation and connectivity. JD Edwards recognizes and embraces mobility, which is a key reason for its success in the ERP space.
